On November 29 and 30, AniCura, a group of hospitals and clinics specializing in veterinary care for companion animals, held its 3rd Iberian Congress, dedicated to “Endocrine System Medicine and Surgery.”

Endocrine disorders are very common in pets and affect various glands, leading to a range of diseases. Some of the most common include diabetes (in dogs and cats), hyperthyroidism (in cats), hypothyroidism (in dogs), Cushing’s syndrome, and canine hypoadrenocorticism, known as Addison’s disease. To highlight these conditions, AniCura dedicated this edition of the congress to endocrinology.

This third edition featured prominent speakers from the group’s hospitals throughout the Iberian region, who shared insights into the latest best clinical practices in key areas such as endocrinology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, and nutrition. Topics included presentations such as ‘Clinical case-based approach to PU, PD, and PF,’ by Nuria Mateu of AniCura Vetsia Veterinary Hospital, and ‘Responsible use of antibiotics in everyday practice,’ by Luis Feo of AniCura Ars Veterinaria Veterinary Hospital.

“By studying clinical cases, we can identify patterns and develop more effective treatment protocols, thereby improving our patients’ well-being. Personalizing treatment is key to addressing the complexities of each case,” explains Nuria Mateu. Luis Feo also notes that “this 3rd AniCura Iberia Congress, which brings together experts from various fields of veterinary medicine, is an ideal place to discuss and promote effective strategies for antibiotic use, supporting ongoing training and awareness among industry professionals.”

In addition to the scientific sessions, the congress included practical activities such as a roundtable discussion on clinical quality and the integration of best practices, as well as interactive activities such as an escape room to encourage collaboration among professionals.

“This congress marks another important step forward in veterinary practice across the AniCura network, promoting excellence in patient care and the professional development of its employees. It also fosters valuable collaboration among colleagues at different AniCura centers, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience.”, says Elena Decataldo, Head of Medical at AniCura Iberia

The 3rd AniCura Iberia Congress was intended exclusively for veterinary professionals, with the goal of promoting scientific updates and strengthening clinical knowledge. It brought together approximately 200 participants, including veterinarians and veterinary technicians from the AniCura hospital network.

The congress strengthened AniCura’s commitment to building an integrated network of excellence, where collaboration among members and hospitals is essential to advancing veterinary practice and providing outstanding patient care.

Held in Valencia, the congress was supported and sponsored by strategic partners including BBraun, Boehringer Ingelheim, Centauro, Ceva, Dechra, Ecuphar, Elanco, Fatro, Hill’s, Idexx, Leti, MSD, Royal Canin, Antech, Vetoquinol, Virbac, and Zoetis, who contributed to the success of this edition. The decision to hold the event at this location was made as a show of support for colleagues in the Valencia region, who have faced difficult times following the recent flooding.
